Artemisia annua is an aromatic herb from the daisy family (Asteraceae). It's native range extends from south east Europe to Vietnam and northern India.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine it is known as 'Qing Hao' and has been used for more than 2000 years to alleviate fevers. It has also been used to treat jaundice, headache, dizziness and nosebleeds.
In 2015 the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine was awarded to the Chinese scientist Tu Youyou for the discovery of the bioactive compound artemisin and it's anti-malarial properties.
