Sangre de Grado or Dragons Blood is a medium sized tree in the spurge family (Euphoriaceae). It is native to the upper Amazon region of Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia. The sap is a deep red colour that oozes from the tree when cut. This sap has been employed by indigenous peoples externally to staunch bleeding, accelerate healing and to seal & protect injuries from infection. The sap is painted onto wounds, dries quickly and forms a barrier or "second skin". It is also used internally for intestinal and stomach ulcers. It is commonly employed in Kambo practices to heal the burn wounds in the application of Kambo.
NOTE: Not to be confused with Dracaena cinnabari (a completely different species also called Dragons blood).
