The Apurinã tribe make their famous green Rapé from a plant they call Awiry. They don’t use ashes, only Awiry. They just dry its leafs, pound them and sieve the powder. It doesn’t contain tobacco. Because the Awiry grows close to the river, this Rapé can only be made in the dry season when the river is low. Awiry is traditionally inhaled through a straight tube, a unique snuffing style that differs from most Rapè varieties that are blown up the nose.
